Northern Ontario includes Thunder Bay, North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. Communities in the North are widely dispersed over the region. Local hospitals and public services are especially important in this region. Centralization of public services puts particularly pressure on residents in this region, who will be required to travel hundreds of kilometers to obtain important services they need.
Public services are very important in Northern Ontario where communities are spread over great distances. Cuts to government services will affect the North in unique ways.
The PC government has weakened and removed protections meant to keep us safe, cancelled important programs, instituted a hiring freeze in the public service, which is akin to job losses, cut funding to key public services like education and social service supports, and moved toward merging, closing and privatizing health care delivery programs and services. It continues to put businesses ahead of people.
