  • May 25 webinar – The new normal: Winning decent work for all under COVID –19

Ontario has changed since COVID-19, creating hardship for many workers and their families. However, what was considered “normal” pre-COVID-19 never really worked for all Ontarians.

Ontario workers, a unified Power of Many, will continue to demand decent work for all, public services for all, justice for all, and healthy and safe workplaces and communities for all.

The new normal: Winning decent work for all under COVID-19 webinar will outline some of the changes ushered in during the Ford government’s first few years in office and then explore the government’s subsequent responses to COVID-19 in Ontario. It will also discuss the need for immediate change and what labour and community activists must continue to demand in order to win decent work in Ontario. The webinar will conclude with a call to collectively organize as well as help inform the OFL’s plan of action in building our vision for the new normal – an Ontario for all.

The New Normal: Winning Decent Work for All under COVID-19 is the first in a webinar series rooted in the four pillars of the OFL Power of Many campaign: decent work for all, public services for all, justice for all, and healthy and safe workplaces and communities for all.

  • Injured Workers’ Day Online Rally

June 1, 2020 is the 37th Injured Workers Day. Because of COVID-19, for the first time since 1983, we are not gathering in person to celebrate our collective strength and push for a better future.

Ontario’s health and safety and workers compensation systems are broken. Coronavirus has not created these problems, but it has brought them clearly info focus, and we cannot go back to how things were. This June 1st, we stand together to look towards the future.

We know what is needed to fix the system.
    • Workers MUST be protected on the job.
    • Those who do get sick MUST be covered by workers compensation without hassle or delay, and
    • The compensation board MUST end their harmful practice of deeming, or pretending injured workers have jobs that they do not in fact have and cutting the benefits.

As the province begins to open up, we tell the government and the compensation board – we don’t want to go back to normal. Normal is not good enough.

This injured workers day, it is time to create meaningful change to keep workers safe, and to show once and for all that WORKERS COMP IS A RIGHT.

Join the Ontario Network of Injured Workers Groups and our allies for an online rally featuring stories, speeches, and messages of hope and struggle.
